Kar 98k - Timeless Craftsmanship

A realistically detailed 3D recreation of the Karabiner 98k, emphasizing historical accuracy, material authenticity, and intricate craftsmanship. This project showcases precise wood and metal texturing to depict the wear and aging of a wartime-era firearm while maintaining high fidelity for real-time rendering.

• Role: Weapon Designer & Prop Modeler
• Responsibilities: High-poly and low-poly modeling, UV unwrapping, material creation, texturing, and rendering for presentation
• Tools Used: Maya, Substance 3D Painter, Substance 3D Stager, Affinity Photo
• Research Applied: Historical references were essential in maintaining accuracy in the design of the Kar 98k model. They ensured that the proportions, features, and overall structure of the rifle were true to its historical context, making the model both authentic and visually compelling. Raj et al. (2019) further informed the texturing process by providing techniques to create realistic aged wood and metal surfaces. This was particularly important for capturing the worn and time-weathered look of the rifle, enhancing its historical authenticity and visual appeal. These combined approaches ensured the final model accurately reflected the craftsmanship and character of the original artifact.
